Die Primas (Moira Anouk & Marcela Andrea)
Hello World, we are Die Primas—Marcela and Moira, a duo of experimental maricón folklore. We explore popular memories through queer language, using music, performance, and media arts.
Our name, Die Primas, plays on the richness of language: in Chilean maricón slang, "prima" means a close friend, while in German, "Prima!" means fantastic.
Though based in Bremen, we come from the Andes, and our work exists between resistance and celebration. For us, queer is a way of being—expressed through affection, humor, and courage—rooted in the everyday and the imperfect.

We propose to explore the kuir (Latin American "queer") performative, musical, and poetic scene in Chile from the dictatorship to today, examining the impact of neoliberal capitalism on queer expression. Building on Moira Meine Fuentes' 2017 research, Scene of Resistance: Santiago de Chile 1983, we aim to understand how globalization, exile, and capitalism shape contemporary queer culture.
Key questions include: How do kuir identities interact with U.S. cultural influence ("yankee-ization")? How do class dynamics affect travestismo (cross-dressing) and mariconeo (reclaimed flamboyance)? What role does language play in resistance?
We view queer as an underground, non-exclusive movement, a daily performance of survival. The 2019 Chilean uprising, with its slogan "TODO GRATIS, TODO GAY" (everything for free and everything gay), brought queer visibility into the political stage and social struggles.
