Living Otherwise [working title]

For the Re Capitulating. queer II residency, this exploratory project examines the true liveability of queer individuals and communities in European cities through visual ethnography, mainly film or photography. The aim is to explore how queer individuals and couples navigate visibility in Germany’s current changing (and increasingly troubling) sociopolitical climate. This project seeks to foreground embodied counter-narratives: How do queer people, particularly those marked by the intersectionality of migration, race, or class, live and assert themselves in cities that claim queer-friendliness? Through in-depth conversations and performative documentation with Germany-based queer subjects, this project aims to trace the tension between officially proclaimed inclusivity and lived urban realities.
