Was ist Verrat?
What is "Treason"1?
When unquestioned trust prevails and people take personal freedom for granted, treason can be the only way to justify trust and to turn freedom into a risk one has to take by first destroying them both. Without decency. Without hesitation. Despite and because of knowing better, he, the traitor, takes the plunge for a new beginning.
Drunk with freedom, his betrayal cuts all the ties that have ever bound him and he rushes forward, knowing that he always has been right. As treason can not act without conscience, treason is revolt as well as faith. Even if the traitor forfeits what is dearest to him, it is freedom alone that drives him to his deed. He will always be victorious.
The traitor can break out of all restrictions. He can destroy whatever he wants. Even himself. He can spill secrets – others´ and his own – and move on to forget them. He is therefore always free to start over again, sharpening his ability to forget and experiencing eternal youth along the way
2.
He who betrays has always been the other. Therein lies the source of his radiating strength. His motivation is far superior to the tardiness of bureaucracies and institutions. His success solely depends on starting over, on defying death3. This lets him know when the time has come to throw everything over board.
Just as every criminal and seducer, he, too, will have fervent followers.
Treason must not fear revenge4 and must love great secrets, because to give away these will create supreme beauty and will require the highest degree of artfulness. But what if there are no more great secrets to betray as they all have been unveiled?
Then they have to be reinvented all over again and again at least as intimacies of boredom. Trust us – today, facebook, myspace, twitter, youtube give indiscretion the upper hand – a limitless and minimalist betrayal. A society shaped by such media of stored – clueless or cunning – treason apes governmental requirements to disclose, surveil and evaluate.
This only leaves us to betray for betrayal´s sake as a final effort of criminal virtue!5 We have to choose insanity, the extreme violence of treason, the force of creation!6
Treason is treason is treason. And eros is a rose is a…7
Yet treason – according to reason! – betrays our own freedom first and foremost8. If it where otherwise, we would have to call it revolution9. We´ve betrayed ourselves, are creators and murderers of our freedom. If we could only tell our hearts that we are traitors for life! Where we simply not able to muster our courage without any regards to conventions of society?10 What now, at the end of the his/story that we once betrayed?
Bondage is only conceivable to those whose mind can still tell betrayal and freedom apart without shattering in self-defense. A system of corruption grows out of the individuals´ weakness and sentimentality, thrives on their jaded conformity and growing vulnerability to black mail11. A capitalist order counts on people´s ebbing courage and sustains itself through the everyday, servile self-betrayal that has come to being perceived as a duty on par with the duty that “loyalty” becomes in any kind of dependency.
Therefore – be daring! Risk breaking boundaries! Betray yourselves! Do not denounce the small mistakes, but betray your own betrayal! Hic rhodos, hic salta! Loveliness extreme.
